Interesting! Do they overwinter in this stage? I didn't know that. Also, shouldn't you change the date of the other two images if you took the pictures on 1/16/16?

Images added from 1/16/16.
On my 4th try, I finally refound this little structure on it's
Carpinus caroliniana
twig. It measured 12.5 mm long, 8 mm broad, and 4 mm thick. I separated it from the twig, broke it open, and found it to be composed of chambers containing what appear to be pupae, which measured 2.8 mm long. I'm now thinking this might be Hymenoptera?
