Found in an old field dominated by goldenrod, with occasional thistles and brambles. Feel free to frass any images that don't meet quality standards.

Please crop your images to a rectangle
that is essentially 'just the bug'. We have cropped a couple for you. While you, as contributor, can click on your images and see the full size 1500 pixel images that you uploaded, the rest of us are restricted to a 560 pixel reduction where most of what we see is not caterpillar. That makes for difficulty in identification.
But yes, these certainly seem to be M. picta

Sorry for making you do the recropping for me, I knew about the cropping rule but never got the rationale behind it for some reason. I tend to crop my images, but I have a lot of them and don't always remember to crop more thoroughly.
