Robber fly - Dioctria hyalipennis

Robber fly - Dioctria hyalipennis
Harms Woods Forest Preserve, Glenview, Cook County, Illinois, USA
June 11, 2007
Size: ~10mm
Is this another Dioctria? Do we know which one?

Moved
Moved from Robber Flies.

Dioctria
There is only one eastern species, the introduced hyalipennis/baumhaueri. Seems to be preety widespread in the north east. I have never seen one in the south.

There are quite a number of images
on the genus page. We moved several orange ones from the northeast to the species page. Should all the images but the one lonely Washington image be moved from the genus page to the species page? Or is there another reason all those images are sitting on the genus page?

Dioctria
The ones from Ontario and Washington state should be kept on the genus page. The rest appear to be D hyalipennis.
