how was the species-level ID confirmed?
especially with the view of pronotum obliterated by mites.

most likely
N. orbicollis

good to know
I wasn't doubting the ID, just curious how the species-level ID was made.

Pretty easy one
with that elytral marking, more important view than the pronotum would be of the epipleuron, but overall look I think the initial ID was fine..This guy shows up by the hundreds around these parts, gotten used to seeing it a lot!
