Stem gall on Prairie Sunflower, one side - Olpodiplosis helianthi

Stem gall on Prairie Sunflower, one side - Olpodiplosis helianthi
Spirit Knoll, Plymouth County, Iowa, USA
August 4, 2014
August 4, 2014: collected a distinctive stem gall on Prairie Sunflower, Helianthus pauciflorus
Plant ID'd by M. Leoschke
I know I've seen this before but can't recall if it was a photo on BG or in the field
December 25, 2015: before tossing unsuccessful rearings, I try to double check everything in the rearing jar or baggie, and depending, cut apart galls or dead pupa. There was a dead ovoid in one of the gall cells. And a dead fly in the baggie but it looks like a dried midge unassociated with this gall.
