Unicorn Clubtail - Arigomphus villosipes - male

Unicorn Clubtail - Arigomphus villosipes - Male
Milton, Halton, Ontario, Canada
June 12, 2007
Seen in Kelso Conservation Area (Glen Eden Ski Area) in the small pond by the entrance drive, in front of the Regional Museum. (Hows that for landmarks for ya? Yikes.) Its a small seemingly tame pond but always has something interesting. Most of the area around it is mown and usually only a foot, foot an half tall, except for a bit on the western edge witch is nice and tall (but which I couldn't do anything around because the Red-winged Black Birds kept dive bombing me...)

There was a few of them flying around the pond and often resting on the mats of algae. I netted one and took some close up shots of the tail.

Also interesting was I counted at least 48 clubtail species exuvia scattered around the pond, all on top of the algae mats as well. (exuvia have not been keyed out)
