There are 3 TX records at MPG, one in Sept., one from Presidio Co. Please check out this sp. at Pacific Northwest Moths. The ID characters there seem to fit. "Apex of FW slightly pointed & straight from tip to anal angle". The only similar species is Mythimna oxygala, which at MPG is obviously not my photo. The black spots of the FW are too large and distinct. Also look close and you can see the abdomen has a salmon color which you can see at PNWMoths. If you do not agree with my ID, I would like to know where I went wrong or something I missed. Found at light. At 15 threads = 5mm, I estimate the wing length to be about 13mm. The stated wing length at PNWMoths is 14mm.

Tentative placement

I did go to PNWMoths and your well stated arguments convinced me.
