Possible Nomadinae or Sphecid - Neolarra
China Ranch south of Death Vy, Inyo County, California, USA

Size: 3 to 4 mm
I'm thinking small Nomadinae, probably not Nomada. But possibly some kind of sphecid. Regret this is a specimen, not live, but I would never have gotten a shot of something this small and active in the field.

Great, thanks for clarificati
Great, thanks for clarification. My first impulse was something close to Nomada because of the overall shape.

Neolarra
I assume Larrinae then. Was Neolarra split off from another, older genus? It is not in Bohart & Menke 1976. Thanks!

Not Larrinae
Larrinae is a subfamily of Sphecidae sensu lato in your reference, now Crabronidae. Neolarra is Apidae, Nomadinae.

The next step in the key in Michener(1) is

Scutellum widest at or in front of middle; outer margin of axilla rounded... Neolarra (Neolarra)
Scutellum widest behind middle; axilla produced in acute tooth... Neolarra (Phileremulus)
