Libellula croceipennis ? - Libellula croceipennis - Male
Austin, Travis County, Texas, USA
September 18, 2005
Thanks to John Abbott for helping me ID this. I have a companion video to this still that shows this male perched on a limb watching over the female. She is laying eggs in the water of the creek below, bobbing herself into the water and flinging large droplets of water (containing her eggs) onto the bank of the creek. I was in total amazement at the behavior I was witnessing (although I understand it is common behavior). Luckily, my pocket point and shoot had a video mode and I captured this incredible action. Where can I post this 56 MB video for others to see??

Libellula croceipennis, seconded.
While I'm no expert, your ID looks perfect to me. (Also, I'm assuming Cliff would note any discrepency, and he seems to be on board. And he knows his odes!

You might need to compress it a bit, but you can post it and then put the link up here.
