This is my "find" of the day. I almost missed taking the photo, too, since my first impression as it flew to the underside of a leaf was that it was a paper wasp (P. fuscatus) which are quite common around here. But since it seemed odd for a paper wasp to act this way I turned the leaf over. Glad I did, too. Which makes me think that I probably missed this one or another mantidfly earlier in the afternoon since I saw what I thought was a paper wasp disappear under the leaves of a nearby oak. This mantidfly was also very calm. I even managed to have it perch on my finger for a time before it flew off.
