Floating in pool. I had submitted this bug before, but these shots represent my attempts to obtain side views of the male genitalia.

Moved from Triozidae.

Appears to be Kuwayama medicaginis
The male genitalia seems to be very unique. That, coupled with the lack of genal cones and prominent clypeus, seem to suggest this small southwestern species.

The host is unknown; Crawford recorded the host as Medicago sativa, but this is probably incorrect. Klyver recorded adults from Chrysothamnus, Parosela, Trianthema portulacastrum, and Lepidium alyssoides(1). Peruvian members of this genus have been associated with Asteraceae(2), and I would reason that this species is probably associated with Asteraceae as well.

I'd still like to see either a front view of the head or a closeup of the male forceps (to verify whether or not they are bicuspidate - from this pic it appears that they are) to confirm, but I feel fairly confident about this ID. Thank you for supplying so many views of this species! They have proven very useful, and this is a new genus for BugGuide.

Thank you Chris!
for your diligent, expert work on these images. I would love to find the host plant(s) and document the immature stages as well. These bugs are very common in my patio, but they are so tiny I can only find them floating in my pool. I am pretty sure that I will get the shots you want. It's just a matter of time. Submitting images that you recognized as a new BG genus is very rewarding to me. Thanks!
