Female
The long hairs on the lower lobe of the calypters = Syrphus
The eye-gap is wide = ♀
She is most likely something very close to this one: (Northern Range)
Syrphus torvus: ♀ Good Luck!

My first thought had been Eupeodes,
so I'm grateful for the feedback that it's likely Syrphus instead- thank you Bob!

useful reference for Ontario

Many thanks
for bringing this reference to my attention Larry!
