These were on an oak timber*worm beetle. Are the small ones babies, or a different species?

Hyperphoresy!
The small mites on the big Uropodid are deutonymphs in the family Acaridae, possibly the genus Schwiebea or Histiogaster. Species in both genera live in subcortical habitats and disperse on a variety of wood-associated insects. - Barry
