I identified this specimen as Scaphinotus unicolor. The large size, black elytra, as well as the circular, highly reflexed pronotum, are diagnostic. The only similar species in this region, S. elevatus, has the basal portion of the pronotum extended further laterally, and often has various colors of the elytra. The shape of the pronotum is somewhat variable from the species I have seen from various regions.

This specimen was collected by NEON using a pitfall trap containing a 1:1 ratio of water and propylene glycol.
