Reddish coloring
on the body is usually not developed in populations on the Great Plains (or only just a trace), but can be very strong in populations from west of the Rockies.

also it is most likely that this one was collected in a rangeland habitat but after reading your comment it came to mind that I also collected in a flooded corral in habitat similar to what you described including standing water and salt grass

This is Trimerotropis latifasciata
T. salina
will look very similar, but is a bit more slender, with the head and pronotum a bit more srongly sculptured, and the hind tibiae will be yellow, not red. Also,
T. salina
is a bit more picky about habitat; you will only find it in alkali or salt flats where water collects periodically or near water, as in an undrained depression, along a seep, near the edge of a lake, etc. Usually it will be found on bare cracked white ground near or among Salt Grass. Often it will be damp and muddy at least part of the time. This one may be there with
T. salina
, but it is also commonly found in other habitats.
This is the first posting to BugGuide for Kansas.
