I have had this one. No hindwing prouf. Why do you feel comfortable making this placement? By the way, I have seen one but have hindwing proof.

 
Pattern and Size
This is common, and maybe the largest, in my area. I've shot a number of them. And studied the images here and on MPG to learn the pattern and luckily it's not variable like some moths. Check out Robert Zimlich's, and others', closed wing images and you'll see the forewing pattern is the same. So one doesn't have to have open wings to ID ...the proof is in the pattern (and size).
