Explanation of Names
Carolus is Latin for Charles. The species was named for Charles Alexander for his 90th birthday.
Range
Sierra Nevada from approximately Yosemite to a little north of Tahoe at altitudes from 5,800 to 8,600 feet ("chiefly in the lower lodgepole pine zone or upper ponderosa pine-sugar pine zone").(1)
