Male - lots of white on this one
Solid white "face" means it's a male, and he's got a lot more white than most, including the rest of his body! This image shows the variation w/in the species well.

I just found out :-)
I was studying up on the species a few days ago, read about that, and since it's very unusual to be able to tell male from female lady beetles, just had to check all our images and ID them if I could.

(Yup, I'm a bug geek!)

I find it interesting that when Gordon did his Coccinellidae monograph, the only North American site for this species was Ste. Foy, QU. Now it is so widespread, but BugGuide doesn't have it recorded for QU yet. I was in Ste. Foy in 1999, but that was before I was really into bugs.
