I think this is a duskywing butterfly (possibly Erynnis juvenalis ?).

Thanks, I think you may be right.
Butterflies of Canada
describes the triangular arrangement of the spots in the middle of the forewing to a T. Don't know how I ended up skipping over the cloudywings on my way to the duskywings.
