Patterned aphid - Myzocallis discolor? - Myzocallis

Patterned aphid - Myzocallis discolor? - Myzocallis
Oak Canyon Community Park, Ventura County, California, USA
February 18, 2016
A very nicely patterned aphid that flew away almost immediately as I noticed it. Because of course it did. At least I got this image, though. The most attractive alate aphid I've ever seen.

The habitat was dominated by Quercus agrifolia (coast live oak), but toyon, Artemisia, and Marah macrocarpa was also common.

The wings are like the image of Myzocallis discolor on page 203 of this article, and it keys to that species in the same reference: https://books.google.com/books?id=o81BAQAAIAAJ&pg=PA188&lpg=PA188&dq=myzocallis+california&source=bl&ots=xbvUvrzeEL&sig=DiBjHw4BSunCapaWemBZVC910yk&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwieqOvjrYLLAhVISyYKHfODDZsQ6AEIIjAB#v=onepage&q=myzocallis%20california&f=false It says "the two dusky transverse bands constitute the most distinguishing character". This looks like more than "two dusky transverse bands", but no other species has such a significant wing pattern, apparently.
