springtail - Entomobrya nicoleti

springtail - Entomobrya nicoleti
Newport, Orleans County, Vermont, USA
June 12, 2007

Thanks Frans
From the submissions on bugguide, it looks like there's a lot not known about the springtail populations in the USA.

Well, a lot is known already...
but given the USA is that large a lot is still to be discovered as well ;-)

Entomobrya cf. nicoleti
Typical pattern = 2 bilateral spots at posterior part of 4th abdominal segment. This form has never been recorded from the USA. Therefore the cf. (=confer, =like) in the name. US taxonomists consider such specimens as light colour forms of Entomobrya multifasciata or Entomobrya nivalis.
