Cup-plant stem gall - Antistrophus silphii
Ackworth, Warren County, Iowa, USA

Size: ~3 cm diameter
Gall on stem of cup-plant (Silphium perfoliatum) in brushy old field. Stem segment above gall had broken off naturally. No exit holes observed in gall, so larvae are evidently overwintering here.
