Large springtail - Pogonognathellus elongatus

Large springtail - Pogonognathellus elongatus
Alton, Madison County, Illinois, USA
June 11, 2007
Size: ~5 mm
Found under a rock near a fast-running stream. One of the largest springtails I've seen.

Sorry
it wasn't the best specimen. I'm amazed you could still figure what it was! Thanks for the ID!

Pogonognathellus elongatus
Most probably. Family = Tomoceridae. Note that both antennae are damaged: the long 3rd and short 4th antennal segment is missing. Also the scale cover is damaged. The typical black-and-white iridisation pattern is not well visible.
Compare your specimen with that of Stephen Cresswell of July 13, 2006.
