American Hover Fly (Metasyrphus americanus)? - Helophilus fasciatus

American Hover Fly (Metasyrphus americanus)? - Helophilus fasciatus
Denton, Denton County, Texas, USA
February 28, 2016
Size: At most 1" wingspread
Found this possible American Hover Fly (Metasyrphus americanus) nectaring on Mexican Plum blossoms at the 428 Greenbelt Park in Denton County, Texas. Need to verify whether we have the correct ID or not. If you know the answer, is our specimen a male or female of its species? Many thanks in advance of your assistance.

Flower Fly -- Helophilus fasciatus
Thanks all for the prompt and expert response. Based on the images available at Helophilus we believe it's Helophilus fasciatus, whose BG's page of images we also searched for comparative purposes. Best!

Likely, but worth being cautious about - Helophilus is very difficult to get to species, and there are some look-alikes that are best told apart by the color of the facial stripe, thus I'd leave it at genus level.
