Clover Looper - Caenurgina crassiuscula

Clover Looper - Caenurgina crassiuscula
Tottenham, Ontario, Canada
July 23, 2013

Moved to Caenurgina crassiuscula
Moved from Erebidae.

Tentative ID. I agree with Nancy but although there is variability and overlap in appearance, these are two distinct species.

I agree with your ID of Caenurgina crassiuscula - Clover Looper

The dark bands touch at the midline and the basal band seems to touch the inner margin separating it from the similar Forage Looper (bands do not touch at midline and basal band does not touch inner margin). But these moths vary so much that separation is not always possible. If they represent two distinct species at all.

Thanks Nancy.
