Death Valley Pollen Wasp on Phacelia calthifolia - Pseudomasaris basirufus -

In dead-end box-canyon east of Badwater Road, a few miles north of Mormon Point, Death Valley National Park, Inyo County, California, USA
February 14, 2016

After rhythmically curling and uncurling its abdomen to generated enough internal heat so that it could move, the male here withdrew his head from the corolla throat and started to stretch (and prepare to fly...after growing concerned by all my continuing photographic attentions).
