Identification
Described by Munroe in MONA Fascicle 13.2A as "remarkably similar in appearance to Helvibotys helvialis". The two species can be separated by examination of genitalia and the tibia. However, the range of these two species does not overlap, with helvialis only ranging as far west as Brownsville, TX. (1)

Hahncappsia alpinensis is a bit larger than fordi with paler ground color and weaker markings. The range for alpinensis is from the White Mountains of Arizona southward and eastward to Brownsville, TX. It is not clear if the range of fordi overlaps the range of alpinensis in SE Arizona. (1)
Helvibotys helvialis is an eastern species ranging from Massachusetts and Ontario south to Florida and west to Brownsville, TX. (1)
