green-and-purple beetle - Chlaenius tricolor

green-and-purple beetle - Chlaenius tricolor
Ailsa Craig, Ontario, Canada
August 7, 2004
Size: 8-10 mm
On driveway at night. I think it may be one of the three Trichotichnus species in Ontario (and North America). T. dichrous has a purplish pronotum, like this one. Can anyone confirm or correct?

(update: Thanks to Richard, Patrick, [and Eric]; moved to Guide)

Chlaenius--I think as well
I think this is Chlaenius as well. The coloration, and the two punctures on the pronotum are pretty distinctive. (Of course, I owe this to Eric Eaton, who showed all of us the genus originally.)

Thanks, Richard, that looks much better - the velvety appearance that Eric mentioned is obvious in the photo.
