Tree cricket female on Zinnia - Oecanthus - Female
6 miles NW Lyons, Boulder County, Colorado, USA
October 17, 1999
Size: ~14.5 without ovipositor
THis very narrow and elongate and pale insect looks like a female tree cricket. It was on a garden zinnia in the CO foothills at about 6400'. Any help with its ID is greatly appreciated.

Interesting individual
I'm afraid I too am unable to place it beyond Oecanthus.

It could be an especially pale individual, which might also be a result of high elevation in October. My best guess would be Oecanthus californicus, but that is just a guess. The antennae do seem to be red tinged. If this is a pallid version of a brown form O. californicus, that might explain why there is no black on proximal end of the antennae.

However, it also appears to have an upper-outer black antennal marking on the first antennal segment. O. californicus is quite variable - but a definite ID is probably not possible.

Oecanthus sp
