from the pics you sent
this is a Culiseta impatiens. According to Darsie and Ward Maryland is out of its range, but I found this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=1359008&dopt=Abstract

Wow, you're good. I really didn't expect a species I.D. but was hoping. Thanks for taking the time and for the info in the link. By the way, I'm about 22 miles NE of Fort Meade (referenced in the linked report). In what habitats should I look for the larvae and adults? The community I live in is next to a river that empties to the Chesapeake Bay or could I expect them to be just as much as a backyard breeder (ie. containers, birdbaths, etc.)?

woodland mosquito
you will find the larvae in permanent and semi permanent woodland pools.
