Macrosiphum rosae? - Wahlgreniella nervata - female

Macrosiphum rosae? - Wahlgreniella nervata - Female
El Paso, El Paso County, Texas, USA
March 20, 2016
Size: 2.5 mm
These aphids are starting a colony on my roses. All these photos were taken from a young compound leaf. There was a tiny wasp parasitoid present, but I could not photograph it. It was pretty nice to record a wingless aphid giving birth while she was stuck to a leaf (glued by their own "honeydew"). I am presenting here several stages because it seems obvious they belong to the same species. I understand that this species has a pink and a green form. The images posted on BG so far show the pink form.

Wahlgreniella nervata
This is Wahlgreniella nervata. It has slightly swollen siphunculi which are dark tipped. Macrosiphum rosae does not have swollen siphunucli and they are entirely dark. Alatae of M. rosae also have conspicuous black sclerites along the sides of the abdomen which are absent in W. nervata.

A "new" species for BugGuide?!
Thank you Mihajlo! Could you please update your profile with information about your academic background and level of expertise? Otherwise, I imagine that it would be difficult for BugGuide Editors to create new pages based on your diagnosis.
