The mouth is that small tube under the head.
Magicicada is a plant feeder and drinks plant juices through that little 'straw'.

Well, that certainly interesting. Does "the straw" always have that "open" look? I thought maybe the "openness" had something to do with the strong wind that day because it was there for some time but didn't appear to be feeding.
