larvae?
interesting, last year a large patch of Anemone Canadensis (Canada anemone)growing about 50 ft from where these pix were taken was completely defoliated...when I sent in the larvae pix it was suggested they might be sawfly. Those pix at http://bugguide.net/node/view/1064436

 
The larvae are most definitely sawflies...
...but I can't say if they're the same species as the adult. If the adult is Dolerus as I suspect, their larvae typically feed on grasses.
