Protoxaea? Cloud of buzzing, friendly bees low to the dirt. - Centris errans - male

Protoxaea? Cloud of buzzing, friendly bees low to the dirt. - Centris errans - Male
Big Pine Key, Monroe County, Florida, USA
March 26, 2016
Size: 5/8th inch, eyeballing it
I am guessing this is a Protoxaea(?). It is quite rusty-orange on the end of the abdomen. There were at least 500 of them in the yard swarming widely and frenetically around open dirt / sparse grass. I didn’t see any digging. Pictured is the only bee that landed for more than 3 seconds. Buzz fairly loudly.

Non-aggressive. I was in the middle of them for 5 minutes and never felt threatened.

Thank you!

Centridine Bee
The truncate marginal cell rules out most of the mining bees. This is a Florida special, probably a male Wandering Centris, Centris errans. Nice catch! All of the other images appear to be females, even the ones on Discoverlife.org.

Centridine
Thank you!!!
