I had a really exciting hike today

I found a few species that I've never even seen before. I'm uploading the pics to my bucket now, then I'll tackle ID'ing them on my own. Which is the fun part for me (well taking the pics, and hiking is fun too!). I struck out on snakes though, I know you're all heartbroken for me...

I also took copious amounts of pics, of one particularly interesting creature. I saw a Moth/Butterfly that I mistook for a hummingbird. It didn't seem to mind me, and let me take lots of good pics from lots of angles. It was really impressive, as I've been sitting by the hummingbird feeder trying to get a ruby-throated. Anyway, sorry for the ramble I can link to the bucket if anyone would like to take a look feel free.

Password is apollo . Thanks

P.S. just copy and paste the link, if you want to view the folder.

Question.
I 'am' heartbroken for you:-) Just the same, you can have the western diamondback I almost stepped on while hiking last month here in Tucson....I am curious why you are not posting your insect images 'here,' though, rather than asking us go elsewhere to look.

It's just a photobucket accou
It's just a photobucket account. I can post some of them but if you'd like. I posted a few of the species I found interesting on my site. It recieved little fanfare being that it's a reptile site. I'll copy it over.

Here it is, I hope you guys enjoy it. Thanks also to those who helped me out with the Dragonfly ID's. That's so awesome of you.

It's been super dry until tonight... Anyway snakes and everything else have been in short supply. So I've been bugging out, literally. Enjoy
For those who don't know, the periodical cicada's are out. You won't see them again for 17 years.

Black Swallowtail

Monarch Caterpillar

Snowberry Clearwing Hummingbird Moth (Hemaris diffinis)

UID Dragonfly (which are my new favorite things to photo)

These Ebony Jewelwings were everywhere, the males are the pretty blue and green and the females are more drab and have white spots at the tops of their wings.

This is a Comma Butterfly, you can see the white comma on the wing, where it gets its name.

And a question mark butterfly

Mourning Cloak Butterfly

Red Admiral Butterfly

To top it all off, a pic I think is kind of neat. It's another dragonfly that I can't find in any of my 9 bug books.

I think he meant
the usual route via "Add Image" in either ID Request or the guide. That way you're potentially contributing not just images, but also the information that goes with them, to the guide. The forums are really secondary- ID Request and the guide are the heart of BugGuide.

I get it, I'm still learning
I get it, I'm still learning this site. For me this site is totally user/ unfriendly as far as posting pics. I typically take hundreds of pics a day. Then I go through and upload the ones that are any good at all. Then I have actually create a folder on my local drive for pics I want to post here! Honestly that's waaaay too much effort for me. After I come home, shower, upload, ID (if possible) and then try to post, I have to sift through hundreds of pics again to post here! So no offense this site is phenomenal but I don't have the patience for it. On top of that, my RAW images are so large that I need to then compress them to upload them here!

I know it sounds like I'm whining but just go to my bucketsite and look if you even care. Otherwise I don't have the time to satisfy this site. It's literally painstaking.

Sounds familiar
Taking hundreds of pictures, selecting the ones we want to post and putting them in a folder, cropping, resizing, etc. I thought that we all did pretty much that. What is so unfriendly about it? I usually learn a lot about my pictures during the process and I don't find it painstaking. This is the least we can do to make them available to specialists that are kind enough to help us with IDs.

It's what I'm used to I guess.
I have a few of my own sites, that are dedicated to reptiles. The forums and several other things such as the galleries are so much different than this, that that's what I get frustrated with. I like to keep my pics at a higher resolution, then I can easily zoom into them up to 8 times.I have to resize them to postcards here. Also my pics are set to be taken at a larger resolution (native setting of my camera). Resizing them honestly makes them look horrible. On top of that, when I dump all the hundreds of pics I sort them into my bucket site. Then I can link to them from anywhere. And I don't have to have them locally taking up space.

Having to resize them, and then create a folder locally for the already sifted pics, to post them here is what I'm having an issue with. It doubles my work.

I'm not trying to be condescending to such an epic site. I'm just saying that if I could link from my bucket site it would be easier. The system for uploading here is clunky, slow (one pic at a time) and not how I do things. I would prefer just to put a link to my bucket, and let people peruse them there. It's easier, faster, and painless.
