Plauditus punctiventris
Hi sh11-

I believe this male imago to be Plauditus punctiventris.

Any pointers for ID
Hi Roger,

I'm curious about how to ID these. Any pointers for how to distinguish this species from other baetids?
Cheers,
Bill

Determination Of Species ID
Hi Bill-

Well, I have intensely studied mayflies for the last (15) years since retirement. The two Baetidae genera absent wings are Plauditus and Procloeon. Armed with that knowledge, I was able to eliminate those species not present in Ontario, and then compare the remainder of species to the male imago species descriptions comtained in my cherished copy of the book, The Biology Of Mayflies by Needham, Traver, and Hsu. See book's updated taxonomic index. Hope this helps.

Thanks!
Thanks. That helps, Roger!

Thank you very much for taking the time
to share your expertise Roger- I should have mentioned that the images were modified slightly (sharpened)- I hope that sharpening images is not considered a confounding factor when requesting an ID. Thanks again!

Okay
You are certainly welcome. The image sharpening didn't seem to present any problem.

Glad to hear that sharpening images
is acceptable- thank you once again Roger.
