Bee fly - Aphoebantus
Just N. of I-40, on Kelbaker Road, Mojave National Preserve, San Bernardino County, California, USA

Size: ~ 8 mm
This one seems very similar to the one I posted earlier from the Kelso Dunes, but this one seems to have more distinct markings. Resting in the open on a sunny morning in desert scrub habitat.
