Moth on yucca - Blastobasis glandulella

Moth on yucca - Blastobasis glandulella
Willow Grove, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA
June 18, 2007
Too bad that I didn't have a chance to get better photos of this moth. It was on a yucca blossom and I wonder whether it is a yucca moth or a bogus yucca moth.

Moved
Moved from Blastobasis yuccaecolella. Blastobasis yuccaecolella was described by Dietz (1910) from specimens collected off Spanish Dagger species of Yucca in Nueces County, Texas, and later found on the same types of plants in far south Texas and northeast Mexico (Adamski & Pellmyr 2003). It is unlikely that the same species would range naturally up to Pennsylvania--unless this moth was from a recently imported cultivated plant. In any event, the adults are quite likely not identifiable from images. (And this looks more like a Pigritia sp. to my eye.)

Thanks
Dr. Pellmyr also thinks that it is Blastobasis (formerly known as Valentina) but he thinks that it may be the species called Blastobasis yuccaecolella.
This is good enough for me right now. I will keep trying to get better images.

Probably 1162 -- Acorn Moth -- Valentina glandulella
Real Yucca Moths are white. Look in the flowers/seed heads and you'll probably find some, or the larva.
