 Lestomyia - Lestomyia

Lestomyia - Lestomyia
Kelbaker Road, San Bernardino County, California, USA
March 26, 2016
Size: ~10mm
Found in desert scrub habitat

Moved from Robber Flies.

Actually, this is a Lestomyia, in the Dasypogoninae! Field characters include the super strong bristles, distinctive stubby flagellum with a little blip of an arista, usually some red patches on the legs, and a stripy abdomen. A lot of undescribed species in this cool genus.

Thanks for the ID Tristan. I have a bunch of Ablautus spp. from the trip that I'll be slowly uploading.
