As part of the federal requirements for the Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategy (Strategy) to address the broad array of wildlife species in Florida, 974 Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN) were identified.

The largest portion of the SGCN list is wildlife that has no dedicated funding sources. The majority of Florida’s species have conservation needs that are not funded through the Endangered Species Act or hunting and game programs. This Strategy and the funds from the State Wildlife Grants program will provide and help identify additional funds for these species.
