Sesiid Moth - Paranthrene simulans - male

Sesiid Moth - Paranthrene simulans - Male
Downs Mem Park, Pasadena, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA
June 22, 2007
Size: B.L. ~30mm
Quite large and robust. Found on a Hosta leaf in mixed woods but underneath large White Oaks (Quercus alba). Anyone know which Clearwing this is? I've estimated the wingspan to be near 43-45mm based on body length.

Paranthrene simulans
This is Paranthrene simulans. Who wants to be first to capture this insect in your bare hands? Will it sting you? No! It only a moth.

Paranthrene sp. female
Your specimen looks like a member of the Paranthrene genus, most likely Paranthrene pellucida, though P. simulans "form" luggeri could also be a possibility.

sesiid identification
Marius - The antennae seem to indicate this is a male, and I agree it is either pellucida or simulans.
