Scaphinotus debilis - Scaphinotus debilis - male

Scaphinotus debilis - Scaphinotus debilis - Male
The Great Smoky Mountains, North Carolina, USA
August 15, 1994
Size: ~13mm
This specimen is housed at the Twin Creeks Science Center. The determination of Scaphinotus debilis was made by Van den Berghe. It was caught in a pitfall trap and dated "VIII 1994" which I assume means August 1994, but could refer to something else perhaps?

Sweet!
Moved from subgenus Maronetus.

Moved from subgenus Maronetus.

The date that got entered
is April 9, 1994 which doesn't fit with your description of August. Pitfall traps are usually out for a while, so if August is the correct month, putting in a date of the 15th or so shouldn't be unlikely.

Removed
I removed the date so anyone interested can make their own opinion on it. Thanks for the catch. I didn't realize only putting in the year would automatically add the current day of the year.

Date
I think you should definitely enter August 1994. No question what that label means from a pitfall trap surgery. Thanks for the nice image!

Thanks!
Sounds like there is some consensus on the roman numberal dating system, I'll re-edit haha. I'll be posting a few more images of other Scaph species from the Smokies not yet on bugguide a bit later today.

Thanks for the compliment. I've much appreciated your well placed specimens and fantastic photos Frank!
