What Is It?? - Cyphoderris - Male
Deer Park, Stevens County, Washington, USA
April 10, 2016
Size: unknown
Found these in yard this morning. About 20. Their a soft shell and sometimes release a dark brown liquid and very slow moving

Question about find
Hi Heidi, I'm very curious about the timing and number of these animals that you found all at once. If you remember, can you describe more about how you found them? Were they on the ground, up in vegetation, under rocks/brush, did you dig them up? April 10 is very early for C. monstrosa and even C. buckelli (although the latter breeds before the former). I'm wondering whether these individuals had just emerged from hibernation.

yes, Cyphoderris sp. males
Moved from ID Request.

And one female
The individual on the left in the middle is a female (note the absence of any sizeable wings and the relatively flat pronotum).

Perhaps hunp-winged crickets
