Spineless propodeum is like P*maricopa, but smooth (not finely areolate) interrugal spaces on the head make this the all-red, coastal region version of P. californicus.

Thanks!
Was considering P. californicus too but couldn't find a good characteristic to differentiate. The antwiki page for P. maricopa seems to indicate how puctate the epinotum is key and that rugosity isn't a great guide, but when I went looking I couldn't find significant differences in the antweb shots between them as comparisons. All pretty subtle stuff it seems!

Thanks again!
