Small Carpenter bee -
Ceratina
Pilot Rock, Umatilla County, Oregon, USA
April 11, 2016
Size: 5mm
There were several of these buzzing around a small, dead rose stem (3.5mm dia.). When I snapped it off and put it in a jar, four came out of the stem.

Male - Small Carpenter Bee
Most of the sightings of the
Spurred Ceratina
,
Ceratina calcarata
are eastern, but they have also been reported on the west coast. Please wait for an expert opinion.
The process on the hind femora is distinct for the males in a few species of this genus.
♂
Good Luck!
