Courtship; crouch display - Pelegrina galathea - male - female

Courtship; crouch display - Pelegrina galathea - Male Female
Licking County, Ohio, USA
April 30, 2006
Captive specimens forced to degrade themselves in front of my camera.

After three or four attempts, this was about as close as he could get before she would turn and run away.

How
did I miss this? It seems she is already fertile?

Not sure what you're asking.
Not sure what you're asking. My sights were pretty low on this one as I really just wanted to capture the male's pose. Both were released afterward.

Had a similar issue with putnami last summer, with a virgin adult female that just wouldn't mate. Laid plenty of eggs, but she skipped Step 1.
