Beetle seen while hiking to Murray Canyon near Palm Springs - Lytta magister
Palm Springs, Murray Canyon, California, USA

Size: 1.5 - 2 inches
This beetle was out in the middle of a hot sunny day. It has a brilliant red head, black and red legs and a red abdomen with black stripes, it's elytra and antennae are black. I think it may be some sort of fire colored beetle?
