possible sap feeding beetle - Carpophilus brachypterus

possible sap feeding beetle - Carpophilus brachypterus
Colchester, Hancock County, Illinois, USA
April 16, 2016
Size: approx. 4mm
I have been seeing a lot of these tiny beetles on and in the pussytoes flowers. It's been difficult to photograph such tiny beetles but this time I dug them out with my fingernails. These beetles are obviously feeding on nectar. I think they are a type of sap-feeding beetle. They have short wings but I'm not sure if that is because they are young beetles.
