Leaf-cutter Bee - Megachile pugnata - male

Leaf-cutter Bee - Megachile pugnata - Male
Cross Plains, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
June 23, 2007
This bee spent quite a bit of time doing something on a tansy leaf. One of the more seldom seen bees around here since this is the first time I've seen one like this. I think it looks like a Megachile but it has a more squared-off abdomen than the other Megachile bees that I see around the garden.

Male.
Appears this is a 'male' Megachile, most species of which have blunt abdomens in that gender.
