False Darkling Beetle: Dircaea liturata
Initially looked like a Click beetle, but I thought I remembered seeing this one somewhere (BugGuide, of course). And Jim's recent "non-click" from the pool taught me that Melandryidae have long first segment hind tarsi, which yours does also. Sure enough, there it was - .

Downie and Arnett list only one Dircaea for the northeast - Dircaea liturata (LeConte), so these can all be moved to a new species page.
